This position will execute lab experiments to help discover next generation gene editing targets that will improve plant health and agricultural sustainability. The successful applicant will have strong Molecular Biology experience with demonstrated molecular cloning expertise, along with a solid understanding of gene editing technology and microbe and/or plant biology. The key responsibility of this position is to independently design and build molecular tools and functional assays for gene editing target discovery in cell, microbial and plant systems. This position will be part of a highly matrixed, cross-functional discovery team with opportunities to interact across protein engineering, plant pathology and analytical chemistry functional teams. This position offers an excellent opportunity for a motivated individual to grow and learn in a dynamic environment focused on cutting edge gene editing technology. Duties: * Work as a key member of molecular discovery team dedicated to developing next-generation gene edited crop traits such as improved sustainability, plant disease resistance, and oil quality. * Independently plan and execute molecular cloning experiments to build DNA constructs, molecular tools and functional complementation assays. Run gene expression and other functional characterization assays in microbe and plant systems. * Work with cross functional teams to help uncover and validate new gene editing targets. * Communicate project updates in reports and functional team meetings. Qualifications : * Bachelor’s degree in molecular biology, Microbiology, Genetics, Plant Biology, Biochemistry, or related field with 2+ years of experience or M.S. with 0 to 2 years of experience. * Strong understanding and demonstrated practical experience with a range of molecular biology technologies including cloning and other DNA/RNA manipulations, PCR, qPCR, and western blotting. * Practical experience with functional or other expression assays in microbial and/or plant systems. * Understanding and hands-on experience with yeast two-hybrid or other protein interaction technologies is beneficial. * Understanding and interest in gene editing technologies and plant biology. Understanding of analytical chemistry methodologies, such as GC and/or HPLC, is beneficial. * Demonstrated ability to apply scientific principals and independent technical discretion with experimental design, execution, and interpretation. Can overcome technical challenges with creative solutions. * Prior experience working in an agricultural biotech and/or plant biology environment is desired, but not essential.
